Signing in...
Okay, so I've always enjoyed writing fiction, but I haven't done much of it lately. So, I'd like to try my hand at a fiction with weekly... possibly bi-weekly releases. For it, though, I want YOU GUYS to give me some characters. Sure, I could come up with them all myself, but it just isn't as fun that way.
Furthermore, as the story progresses, I'd like to hear your opinions and thoughts on how it should continue. I may or may not use your idea, but I like the idea of building it off of the community.
Not that there's exactly a large community here...
So give me a character. Give me a description of their personality, background, and appearance. I may (very well will actually) tweak the character a little bit, but I'll try to stay fairly true to the character. I'd like to use all the characters suggested, even if they're just minor roles, and will also always be open to new suggestions.
I think this will be fun, so I look forward to your contributions.
In case you didn't realize, you can comment, even if you don't have a google account. You can just use a fill-in name or even comment as anonymous.
SO I BETTER GET A LOT OF REPLIES ON THIS BLOG POST.
...signing out.
I'll have to think about it for a while... Will you give us any general idea on what it might be about, so that we can have a sort of jumping-off point? Or are you just seeing what all sorts of characters people will come up with out of the blue?
ReplyDeleteI tend to like to do realistic fantasy (that a real genre?)... so like my Dimly Lit Streets... werewolves and werecats in today's society born from science (I never got that far in the story, but readers woulda eventually found out that they were scientifically created.)
ReplyDeleteI guess in that way, I was dabbling sci-fi also, but I'm not big on it.
Anyway, I generally like to shape my story around the characters, but I can try to think of the basis of the plot first if that would help people.
Nah, I don't really need the plot or anything, personally. I was just curious. Just knowing that you like realistic fantasy is good enough for me, even if your story maybe ended up not being about that. I'm not even sure how that helps, but it somehow does. ^_^ Anyway, I'll think about it tonight, and hopefully post another comment tomorrow or something. I just love making characters for other people's stories, even though I've always been better at making plot over creating convincing characters.
ReplyDeleteGreat =) I'll prolly end up releasing the first chapter around this time next week. =)
ReplyDeleteAll right, it's not the most inspired character, but it's all I've got at the moment:
ReplyDeleteHer name is Emily Miller. She's the youngest of four children; all of her older siblings are boys, and all of them are either in college or out of it. Emily's still in high school (in whatever grade you want her to be). She is an extremely quiet girl, and she will only talk freely with her family and two or three good friends; this is true to such an extent that she's essentially the girl that might have been in your class since kindergarden, but you've still never heard her talk. Even once.
She loves animals, and has a part-time job at the local zoo; seeing as she doesn't really have the motivation or smarts to go on to some high-paying career, she plans on getting a zoology degree and become a zookeeper. She also enjoys reading, but doesn't really do so except for school assignments.
At her core, she's a very idealistic girl who can be trusting to the point of foolishness - her completely introverted personality is probably the only thing that keeps her from being the focus of every gullibility joke there is.
She's also had a fairly average life up until now, having grown up in a fairly average family; there's nothing really important to note about her past.
... Yet again, probably not the best character ever, but I hope you can use her in your story somehow! ^_^
I love it =D I'm now feeling that the story shall begin in a zoo... =)
ReplyDeleteI s'pose I should go ahead and post my character. I'm sure to add others than this one, but I'm definitely using this one and I wanted to provide a second example to spur imaginations. He's actually stolen from a different story, but I really like him.
ReplyDeleteMmm, also, in the story, there will be action and blood and death. There will also be romance and drama (*cough* good drama).
His name is Enki. This is all he is known by. He's 16 and short for a boy, about 5' 6". Also, he stoops slightly, giving him an even smaller appearance. He's got dark hair and bright, silver eyes. He's unkempt, but generally keeps clean. He's strong, quick, and agile.
He's mentally unstable due to the tragedy of losing his parents in a massacre when he was young. He's very dependent upon another (undefined) character (possibly an older brother). He's nearly always got a smile on his face, though at times, it seems to be completely induced by a strained insanity. He talks in third person. He loves to eat, and especially enjoys sweets. He's quick to trust, but if that trust is betrayed, it's nearly impossible to gain it back.
He doesn't attend school, his "guardian" falsifying a home-schooling course. He travels around with this guardian who does... I don't know...
There's a general concept. Hope it helps.
Lol, my character's so boring in comparison. Enki sounds interesting, though. I'm excited to see what the story will be like! ^_^
ReplyDeleteNono, I can definitely work with yours =)
ReplyDeleteInteresting... I like this idea.

Parents were government scientists working on a secret project (of course) that involved alien technology. When her mom was pregnant, some sort of crazy radiation affected her in womb due to an explosion of something alien, and thus she has telepathic abilities and a ridiculously high IQ. However, her parents were murdered by a secret government organization and now she is out for revenge. Fortunately, her uncle is a freakin' ninja (use whatever badass method you want to explain why/ how he became a James Bond/ John McClaine/ Chuck Norris/ the A-Team in one man) who is helping her. High explosives are often used. Blades are a must have. Theivery is encouraged. Getting caught is not an option.
If you don't use this, I will :)

I laughed out loud by the end. =D Don't worry. She'll make the cut =P
ReplyDeleteWell, I've never been good at planning characters, my characters just happen when I write but I definitly like the idea of Enki having an older brother, you have been the person i lean on very heavily, sorry, but I also think maybe a younger sibling because the want to protect that younger sibling helps them go on...idk, sounds stupid now I've written it. Whatever. P.S. I loved dimly lit Streets and the characters loosly based off of us. :)
ReplyDeleteName: Oliver Martin
ReplyDeleteAge:25-30(ish)
Doesn't have many family ties, and is kinda quiet. He makes friends rather slowly, but when he does, he is fiercely loyal and protective. This is due to him losing his wife and young daughter in an "accident a few years back. (I put accident in quotes cuz i wanna see if you take that somewhere lol)
While he has been through tragedy, he isn't afraid to smile. He also is very strong and agile. (Give him some cool power or something lol) One more thing - back to the protective - he may be quiet and calm and seemingly happy - if something happens to someone he loves/knows well...well, it does not sit well with Oliver.
There ya go!
This is Ryan btw
